Last year I was lucky enough to attend the Canadian Strategic Architect Forum. The goody bag that was given to attendees was quite nice, and included a Microsoft LifeCam NX-6000, as well as a copy of the (then) newly released Windows Vista operating system.
The computer I was using at home for personal use at the time was getting quite long in the tooth, and was unable to run Vista, so I didn’t end up installing it. I then decided to switch to a Mac, and so had no use for it. I tried selling it a few times on Craigslist, and at one point considered letting it go for $150. The interested buying never got back to me, so I opted to let the market dictate the price in an online auction at eBay. It was a great decision. 7 days after listing it for $149, I sold it for $212.76 plus $15 for shipping.
I received payment almost immediately, so, the next day, I went to amazon.ca and bought a copy Apple’s Mac OS 10.5 Leopard (5-user family pack) for $20 off, and then combined a $10 coupon I found online for a total of $189 and change (including tax).
Now, that’s what I call an upgrade!

ok, so unless you’ve been under a rock for the last week, you’ve probably heard about the new ipods. i have to admit, they all look fantantic. however, i already have an 8GB fifth generation nano, which I love and use everyday. if the iphone weren’t here, and i didn’t know any better, the new ipod touch would be my choice, without a doubt - it’s amazing and beautiful. the new nano is great too if you’re on a budget, and at $219, it’s definitely a nice little player.
personally, what i’m really waiting for is the iphone - it’s everything i want (mp3 player, pda, and phone) in one device that fits in my pocket. hopefully apple and rogers make the deal happen soon.

The rumour mill has been abuzz with rumours about new iPods next tuesday, but according to Appleinsider, Apple today spread word of a press event scheduled for Tuesday, August 7th to discuss Mac products only, i.e. no iPod or iPhone related announcements. The Mac only announcements have also been confirmed by gizmodo. Appleinsider speculates that iLife ‘08 and iWork ‘08 may also be demonstrated. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a release of this important productivity software just in time for the back to school shopping season.
Although rumours about a new iPod on Tuesday have been circulating recently, based on other information, and the currently running ‘buy a mac, get an ipod nano’ promotion from Apple, I don’t expect to see a new iPod until or on September 16th.

Over the past two weeks or so, I’ve gone to every cell phone provider’s website to check out both what phones and plans are on offer. I keep finding myself getting caught up in wanting to get a higher end phone with more and more features, but then I get frustrated. If I am going to go that route, then I want it to be with an iPhone, no some other crappy phone that I am going to regret as soon as the iPhone is announced. After having gone for a swim with my phone, I’ve learned the importance of having the ability to back up your phone book. Doing so is easy with a GSM phone because you can store all that infomation on th SIM card and just bring it from phone to phone.
While I still haven’t decided on a phone or a plan yet, I have decided that my new phone will be of the GSM sort, which in Canada means I’ll be on either Rogers or Fido. I guess it’s time to go cancel my old Bell Mobility plan.
