killer deal
competition in the cell phone market is already starting to heat up in a way that is benefitting customers. lately, i’ve been seeing a lot more plans for under $20/month being advertised in the daily rags. the one that caught my eye recently was the $17.50/mth killer fido plan from fido.
when i switched to fido in july for the iPhone, i signed up for the $30/month fido to fido plus voice plan with the following features:
- 150 daytime minutes
- 50 bonus minutes (with a 3 year contract)
- unlimited evenings and weekends from 7pm
- unlimited local calling between fido and rogers subscribers
- per second billing
- unlimited incoming text messages
this actually seemed to work for me quite well, other than i was paying a premium for the fido to fido and rogers piece, but, since i work 9-5, most of my calling is done after 5, and i didn’t really get to make much use of the fido to fido/rogers part. i called fido up to see if i would qualify for the plan, and i did, so the CSR made the change for me. since yesterday was also the last day of my billing cycle, the plan went into effect at midnight last night.
the new plan means:
- i pay less (with taxes, i’m saving about $14/month)
- have the same amount daytime minutes
- have the same per second billing
- evenings now start at 5pm instead of 7pm, which rocks.
sounds like a killer deal to me.
